SBS 'Idol Big Show' slammed with criticisms involving YG Entertainment

SBS ‘Inkigayo’ viewers noticeboard has been busy with netizens’ discussion even though it was not aired on 4th October.

Reason being that netizens were in heated discussion about SBS chuseok special Idol Big Show which was aired on 3rd october. There were many who voiced that even though the name is ‘Idol Big Show’, it was actually like a ‘YG concert’.

Because there was no noticeboard set up for the show as it is a one-off special show, netizens have diverted their views on Inkigayo noticeboard.
The artistes who appeared on the show were GDragon, 2NE1, So Nyeo Shi Dae, KARA, Lee Seung Gi, 4Minute, 2AM, After School etc and the show lasted for about 90 minutes. But much of the time were focused on YG singers and their performances.

While Lee SeungGi is the invited singer, he was more like the MC to the show. And singer groups like 4Minute and After School, they appeared at the beginning of the show, and after which they did not appear again. On the other hand, 2NE1, Big Bang and GDragon all YG singers had sung about 10 songs altogether. While for other groups, the most number of songs they performed were 3 songs.

Also netizens felt that YG Entertainment singers were given special treatment. While other singers perform special dance and trot performances, GDragon and 2NE1 got to sing their own songs. Many felt that the show was not a chuseok special but a YG concert.

A staff from Star Idol Show came up to clarify, “We had not purposedly dedicated more time for any artistes. The amount of time the artistes get on stage depends on their schedule for that day of filming. “

YG 2NE1 new family member

With an eccentric style of fashion and a refreshing genre of music, 2NE1 has proven time and time again that they can’t settle to take a normal route like others.

Adhering to their distinctive customs, the YG ladies welcomed the latest addition their family, Ddo Chi. Unfortunately for Minji, who always wanted a puppy, the “baddest female” opted for something more… exotic.

On October 4th, CL updated her me2day with a picture of her new pet hedgehog with a caption that read “Our son, Ddo Chi”.

Surprisingly, hedgies are not a poor choice as a pet as these little critters are low-maintenance and diurnal (awake during both day and night). Considering their hectic schedule, the female four will be able to enjoy the pet at any time of the day at their own convenience.

In addition, owners don’t have to worry about stepping in the pet’s poop which is perfectly camouflaged on the carpet, barfing on your best friend’s jeans after eating gum off the floor, or dry humping your arm like no tomorrow. The more I think about it, the more I’m tempted to trade in my mutt for one of these…

Teddy speaks up about plagarize issue of "I Don't Care"

Following the reports that YG Entertainment whose artists include G-Dragon and 2NE1 has received notification letters concerning infringement of copyrighted materials from a local copyright holder, Teddy (HongJoon Park), the composer and producer of 2NE1’s "I Don’t Care," had an exclusive phone interview with AM 7 on the 24th to express his position on the issue. Whenever there was a dispute over plagiarism, it was usually the label (who has the neighboring copyrights) who released statements to acknowledge or deny the accusation. This is the first time that the composer, the copyright holder, has spoken about his position.

In the interview, Teddy said firmly that he did not plagiarize, responding to the claims that there are similarities between the chorus parts of "I Don't Care" and "Just Go" from Lionel Richie’s album released last year. He said, "I did listen to the Lionel Richie song following the controversy over "I Don't Care." You can’t say it is plagiarism just because the feel, not the melody, of the two songs are similar.” He stressed, "Two people living on the opposite sides of the world could have similar facial features. It is not right to say it is plagiarism just because the feel of the songs are similar. "I feel frustrated that some people are convinced that I used the Richie song as a reference, if not plagiarized," he added.

Teddy is a member of the hip hop group 1TYM and has been with YG Entertainment for over 10 years, writing and/or arranging most of the hits by YGE artists. He arranged Se7en's "I Know" (2006) and Big Bang’s "Sunset Glow" (2008) and wrote and arranged TaeYang’s "Look Only at Me" (2008), Um JeongHwa’s "D.I.S.C.O." (2008), and 2NE1 and Big Bang’s Lollipop (2009).

He says, "When you write a song and if that song is similar to another song then it is the composer’s responsibility to make changes. However, as far as this song ("I Don't Care") is concerned, Heaven knows and I know that I have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of so I will not discuss it at length." He added, "I have absolutely no interest in either lawsuits or plagiarism accusations."
